SENSOR VALLEY is an interactive artwork of light pillars that produce color and sound in response to touch.

Sensor Valley

SENSOR VALLEY is an interactive sensor artwork featuring wireless-connected pillars that produce light and sound in response to touch. Located at the entrance of the new theater in Assen, it transforms the space into a vibrant, immersive environment where light and sound dynamically react to human interaction.

The pillars shift from calming blue to excited red, reflecting the warmth and energy of touch and hugging. This color change symbolizes individual engagement and creates a synchronized dance of light, as the pillars communicate with each other and visitors. Their wireless connectivity enables a collective behavior, mirroring the flow of people through the space.

Beyond its visual appeal, SENSOR VALLEY fosters a deep connection between people and their environment. It enhances the cultural experience by integrating art with everyday interactions, making the entrance a lively, interactive space.

As part of Sensor City Assen, SENSOR VALLEY evolves with the audience’s movements and emotions.

2012. Assen, NL. Permanent artwork featuring large pillars equipped with LEDs, sensor technology, firmware, microchips, and sound speakers.

SENSOR VALLEY is commissioned by the City of Assen and is part of Sensor City Assen.
