LOTUS 7.0 is a living wall composed of smart foils that fold open in response to human behaviour. When walking by LOTUS, hundreds of aluminium foils unfold in an organic way; generating transparent voids between private and public space.
LOTUS makes physical walls immaterial, giving way to a poetic morphing of space and people.
2010-2011. Curved wall of 4 x 2 meters fitted with hundreds of smart foils, lamps, sensors, software and other media.
Self-commissioned by Studio Roosegaarde.
LOTUS DOME is a living dome made out of hundreds of smart flowers which fold open in response to human behaviour. Located in the 17th-century Sainte Marie Madeleine Church in Lille (FR), LOTUS DOME creates an interactive play of light and shadow.
As a futuristic vision on the Renaissance, LOTUS DOME merges elements of architecture and nature into an interactive environment.
The project was awarded the Media Architecture Award 2012 in the category of Future Trends.
Commissioned by the City of Lille for the Lille3000 FANTASTIC exhibition curated by Caroline David.
